Hot Bidding Expected At What’s Up Charity Auction

3 Nov 03

Offers are rolling in for what looks set to be one of Auckland’s hottest Charity Auction’s this year.

Tandem high-altitude sky diving tickets, helicopter rides, a weekend at White Water Lodge, and season tickets to the Warriors are just some of the prizes that will come under the hammer at the What’s Up Fund Raising auction at George Restaurant & Bar in Parnell on Tuesday November 18.

What’s Up, run by the Kids Help Foundation Trust, is a national call-free telephone counselling service for young people aged 5-18. Available seven days a week from midday to midnight the service receives about 452 calls a day. In the past two years it has received over 500,000 calls from children all over New Zealand.

The Charity is currently experiencing a funding crisis due to the withdrawal of two primary corporate sponsors and is on a major drive to pull in new sponsors and raise emergency funds.

“We are really delighted with the way people have rallied around to support us,” says Executive Director Grant Taylor.

“People have been incredibly generous. Corporates have offered everything from financial planning sessions to a three-month subscription to the gym, clothing, wine and concert tickets.

“Carlos Spencer and Dough Howlett have offered autographed All Black Jerseys and Carlos has added items from his new clothing range. Barbara Kendall has offered memorabilia and we have two signed netballs coming from the Silver Ferns.”

Guest auctioneer for the night is Richard Valentine from Baileys. Entertainment will include a performance by Mika & the Toro Toro Dancers.

The evening will start at 7pm and run until 9pm with the auction starting about 8.15pm

Tickets cost $95 per person including food and wine. They can be purchased by calling 630 4144.

For more information call Grant Taylor Ph 630 4144 or Allison Webber 04 905 8595.
